MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION OF NEUROSURGICAL STENT OPTIONS FOR CRANIAL ANEURYSMS

CLIENT
Confidential

CHALLENGE
Our client required an informative medical illustration of the cerebral arteries with multiple aneurysm types and their potential stent treatment options. The cerebral arteries are quite complex, it flows in varying directions and has multiple branches. Visualizing this from an angle can also prove challenging.

THE SOLUTION
To visualize the arteries from this angled top-down view, we sourced CT data of the cerebral arteries and created a volume render. This helped us maintain medical accuracy as we developed the illustration to meet the client’s requirements.

Check out our visual development/behind the scenes imagery to see some of the work in progress iterations of this medical illustration.

Step 1

We source an angiogram CT of the cranial arterial system so that we can get an idea of how the arteries look at this angle.

Step 2

In our initial concept sketches we produces two layout options for our client to review and provide feedback on

The intention of these layout options was to pull focus to the devices however this was later dropped as there was a disconnect between the devices and aneurysms

Step 3

We further refine the anatomy before mapping out all of the arterial branches, skull base and devices

Step 4

We can now begin blocking out rough colours for all of our elements in the scene

Step 5

Here we switch gears with our colour approach and develop a warmer tone. We add labels for our client to review

Step 6

Here are some of our internal art direction notes as we further refine the illustration and implement our client’s feedback notes

Step 7

Here is how the final colourized illustration looks.
